Bathroom Remodeling On A Budget

It’d be a shame not to be able to reclaim your money when selling the house! In this article, we will provide a few cost saving ideas to help you along the way.

Over Improvement = NO
One mistake many people tend to make is over improvement. The idea of a remodel is to make the room nice, but not to spend money simply for the sake of spending. A good rule of thumb is to consider the return investment when you end up selling the home. Many homeowners believe in only investing in the most luxurious and expensive projects, this many times will result in wasted money and time.

The Vinyl Option
One of the most important aspect of any bathroom is the flooring. The floor of a bathroom takes s a great deal of abuse. As such, investing in a material that will retain its looks long term is a solid idea. Many people end up installing tile flooring due to the thought that it is the only quality option. However, many people are now switching over to vinyl flooring due to its durability and aesthetic appeal.

Recent advancements in vinyl technology have had the resulting effect of greatly improved products, mimicking the look of more expensive ceramic tile options. By choosing to go with vinyl flooring, you will not only save money, but have a floor that will last you years and look great at the same time! Even the most expensive vinyl pales in comparison to most tile costs. Take a trip down to your local flooring store and check out your available options. You just might be surprised at what you come out with.

Countertops
Another popular improvement area of the bathroom is the countertop. Most of our time in the bathroom is spent somewhere near the counter region. Thus, finding something that will look great while holding up to the abuse will inevitably occur is a must. And while you may be thinking something along the lines of granite or other stone finishes, the fact is that consumers are now able to purchase wonderfully looking laminate countertops at a fraction of the price.

The most important aspect of savings is taking the time to evaluate your options. Chances are you’re not going to find the most cost effective solution on your first try. Try to avoid your immediate impulses, and stay the course. A beautiful and cost efficient bathroom is just around the corner.

If you are looking for bathroom remodeling, southern California based companies are dedicated to providing you with the bathrooms that you want. They work with only the highest quality products and state-of-the-art equipment.
Flowers are the star attraction of any garden, and as such, flower beds, which are the marked areas for growing flowers need special attention. The process of choosing the appropriate space, apt designing of the beds, raising up the most suitable plants and giving constant care is called flower bed cultivation. In reality, the aesthetics of the surroundings is increased manifold by the flower beds apart from preventing the attack of weeds.

Flower beds are indispensable to any garden whether it is a formal one like the garden around Taj Mahal or one which is totally natural and informal. There are different types of flower beds like the seasonal ones for growing annuals and biennials like marigolds or ones which are permanent which has perennials like lupines, foxgloves etc. Even the dullest landscape can be changed into a place of beauty by the presence of these beautiful islands of color.

You should not be under the impression that flower bed cultivation is an easy process. The design should go along with the overall design scheme of the garden. A good drainage is needed for the bed since most of the garden plants except water plants would not be able to grow in boggy conditions. The overall designing should be done in such a manner that it aids in easy removal of weeds, pests etc and allowing watering and fertilization easily.

Before starting the cultivation, it is important to dig up the area very well. According to the need of the situation, you may add loose or packed soil so that the texture of the soil is improved. You should not keep the turf too hard or excessively loose. You can destroy the weeds and their seeds from the turf by spraying herbicide. Digging and tilling are other natural methods to remove these unpleasant surprises. After this, healthy growth of plants can be initiated by spreading a layer of compost on top of the bed.

Always remember to dig down to at least two feet for planting perennials. Edging can also be installed if you feel it necessary. You should approach flower bed cultivation in a systematic manner since flower beds are easily noticeable in a garden. Getting sufficient information in this regard is not a problem these days with the availability of journals, experts and above all, the scientific marvel, the Internet.

If you have a room in your house that is lacking in color and excitement, consider changing your ceiling to embellished tin tiles! If you have never heard of this popular new way to redecorate, now is the time to explore how exciting and beautiful it can be.

Tin ceilings consist of painted or embossed tin plate panels, which are pieced together to create a beautiful, unique look to your room. They were originally introduced in Australia and South Africa in the late nineteenth century, though they were quite unknown in the rest of the world.

Metal sheets such as copper, stainless steel, and tin were stamped with complex and beautiful patterns, then copied and developed from the finest molded and carved plaster-work. This look became very popular in the most expensive European households.

As they became more and more popular, tin was used as a more lightweight and practical substitute, and was shipped all over the world. Their popularity began to really develop in the mid-nineteenth century, as mass produced sheets of thin rolled tinplate became much more easily available and inexpensive.

A revival of this has take place in the United States and Canada, as the restoration of old tin panels has become a business. This nostalgic and vintage look is a wonderful way to add an old world class to a room in your home or office.

Today, there is a wide range of beautiful designs, materials, and looks that were not possible back in the day. Panels can be painted to look like plasterwork, clear lacquer can be applied to preserve a natural finish, and faux painting can be done to create any look you can imagine.

There is a broad spectrum of colors and textures that can be used to create the desired look. Let’s take a look at some of the possibilities that can create a new sense of design adventure in your home.

The first thing you will want to decide is what kind of finish you are looking for. The general, most popular options include unfinished steel, powder coated colors, vintage hand painted solids, vintage hand painted antiques, and wood grain.

Each finish has a very unique and individual look, and is completely up to personal preference. A powder coat is the process of coating the tiles with a powder that is applied using electrostatic or compressed air.

The tiles are then passed through an oven where the finish is baked on. This produces a smooth, durable finish that is extremely resistant to scratches, cracking, peeling, or rust.

There are a variety of colors you can use with this process, including white, cream, black, silver, copper, brass, and more. If you want hand painted solids, make sure you find a master craftsman with experience in hand painting and custom finishing.

With hand painting, you have even more color options, such as chocolate, olive, sage, red, taupe, burgundy, etc. If you want an antiqued look like was mentioned before, the painter adds a bit of a worn look with a complimenting color.

Wood grain offers the look of a high end wood grain at the fraction of the cost of real wood. You can choose which kind of wood you would like to replicate, including Teak, Cherry, Walnut, and Douglas Fir.

Once you have chosen your finish, you can begin to browse the expansive library of patterns and designs. They range from the tiny and intricate, to the grand and ornate.

The first category would be the floral arraignments -there are small floral arraignments, larger flower designs, weaving vines, and more. These add a nice feel to a kitchen, or domestic area.

The next would be your vintage European designs-this would include medallions, royal designs, Fleur de Lis, and Victorian basics, among others. These are designed to feel very classy, and attention grabbing.

This would look great in a refined area, such as a dining room, a study, or professional office. If you want something more modern or subtle, try embellished squares, pebble finishes, weaving designs, ribbons, etc.

The possibilities are truly endless. This old-fashioned yet modernized approach to decorating will keep your rooms looking fresh, colorful, and unique.

Check out local stores, websites, or designers for more information on color and design options. Use your ceilings as an outlet for your creativity!

Jack R. Landry has worked since 1986 as an interior decorator specializing in ceiling decor. He has written hundreds of articles about home and office decorating and recommends (http://www.tinceilingxpress.com) for ceiling tiles.

Vinyl window

Vinyl windows are a product that can give an older construction the appearance of a well kept piece of real estate. In order for a unit to function properly, there are different types of trims available for vinyl window. Some people not familiar with how the unit works may not think the trim is very important. It is however, a major part of the design.

The trim is that part of the window that joins the window to the sill while giving it a finished look. This part of the window is designed to add to the overall appearance of the replacement window. It is low maintenance, and durable.

The most commonly used vinyl window is called smooth white. It comes in white only and does not have to be painted. The maintenance is simple for the exterior because all that is needed is to wash them with water. The interior should be dusted as often as the homeowner feels it is necessary.

For the customer that likes more color there is a stimulated wood grain for that. Wood grains are chosen mostly because of the variety of colors available. If a customer wants to use vinyl trim and would still like to have the option of having colors, they may want to choose vinyl trim that can be painted.

Units made of PVC can be a good product but if a customer decides to use it they may have to order it from a home improvement store or from the manufacturer. The installation of this type of trim should be done in the same way as pinewood since it is similar in density. When cutting PVC, it should be done the way lumber is cut.

PVC window trim is a good product because there is the ability it has to stand up to bad weather moisture and insect damage. This is an ideal product to use in a space where there is a high amount of moisture. Such as the bathroom. When using wood trim the opposite is true because, it will more than likely rot or mildew when exposed to moisture over a period of time.

If the need is to use the trim on both sides, the vinyl angle trim would better suit the installer. The vinyl flat trim is versatile because it can be used inside as well as outside. This trim also comes in two widths. The window sills of older window units can sometimes be damaged. Using a vinyl sill wrap can fix this problem and it can be used before or after the unit has been installed.

Since saving money has become a way of life, it is important to look around and go with the better deal. Sometimes the better deal is to hire a professional to complete the job and to do so in a timely fashion. Once the unit is finished the energy savings will start and the homeowner can enjoy all the compliments and the instant jump in their property value.

Doors and windows manufacturer Canada specializing in vinyl windows Canada manufacturing technology. Offering high quality vinyl windows, vinyl replacement windows, bay windows and patio doors.
http://www.windowcity.net

Custom cabinetry is an essential element in the design of upper echelon residences. Kitchens, libraries, display cabinets, studies, great rooms and butler pantries all require the touch of a master millworker to underscore the impeccable taste of the owner. But no matter how elegant these rooms may appear during daylight hours, nightfall can reduce a luxurious look to a very ordinary appearance.

Installing inconspicuous lighting sources within your cabinetry enables the owner to create a magical glow from inside, thereby enhancing the appearance of the contents and complementing the look and feel of the entire room. Proper selection of lighting will transform the mundane to the extraordinary. However, poorly designed and executed lighting can produce the opposite and sometimes disastrous effects.

One of the most common mistakes in designing and crafting built in shelving is not providing any lighting within. Once the units are built and installed, it becomes far more difficult to retrofit lighting into these spaces. This is especially true when the shelves are adjustable, whether they are wood or glass.

Another common mistake is installing puck lights in the top of display cabinet sections when glass shelves are being used. Light intensity decreases exponentially as it travels downward and objects on each successive glass shelf create shadows below. The net result is never what is desired or anticipated.

Providing internal lighting in the design is important, but is easily compromised if the back of the cabinet is mirrored or highly reflective. In this instance, the objective of adding the perception of depth is accomplished but a new problem is created. The contents may be beautifully illuminated, but the effect is spoiled by the reflections of the lights in the back of the cabinet.

Kitchen cabinets and butler pantries these days are more than just places to store dishes. As more homeowners are specifying glass pane cabinet doors, the cabinets become display cases for crystal, china, glassware, distinctive plates and a variety of items of interest. Not only is it essential to provide proper illumination, but also manage potential heat buildup in such closed spaces.

Concern over heat production from lighting and overall energy efficiency will inevitably lead toward LED lights. This is another area in which up to date knowledge is critical to making proper choices in lighting, both in terms of performance as well as aesthetics.

The best results are achieved by consulting a manufacturer of custom lighting sources specifically designed to be built into custom cabinetry. Their experience and expertise is invaluable when utilized at the design phase of the project. Often minor modifications to the cabinet design can result in major improvements to the finished product. The knowledge you will gain will allow you to apply some basic principles in your future work and distinguish you in the eyes of your clientele.

This is a great reminder from Christine Harrell about not scrimping on contractors. So many people seem to think roofing is easy, that anyone can do it. I have been involved in a few DIY roofing projects myself, but it’s not something to be taken lightly. If you don’t know what you’re doing, then hire someone who does. Otherwise you’ll end up like my neighbor – replacing the replacement roof at a cost of more than $10,000. Done right, the original job would have only cost about $3,000.

Not sure who to hire? Find thousands of unbiased ratings on the best – and worst – service companies in your area. Try Angie’s List.

Installing a roof on a home is something that takes a skilled craftsman to get the job done right. All roofers use a different process than the next to install a roof correctly. The worst thing in the world is finding out in the end that the roof was not done right and there is a leak. Finding the right company is going to take some time and a little bit of research. There are certain skills that the roofer is going to need in order to get the job done right.

Experience is the number one key to getting the job done right. Hiring a roofer that does not what they are doing is going to make a roof that looks horrible and is leaky. Making sure to choose a roofer that has a good history with the Better Business Bureau is another thing to look for. The better record they have, the better chance of being a good roofer.

Check into the types of materials they use. When the roofer comes to look at the property that is being fixed, make sure to ask tons of questions and listen really well to their responses. Ask about the products that they use, including specific names of the brands. The next thing that one should ask the roofer about is if the material is on hand or something that has to be special ordered. If they have to be special ordered, it can take a while to get them in and the roof can be delayed. The company may have something similar available or may be able to give a discount for someone willing to use material already in stock.

The last thing that needs to be asked is if the roofer can do the job as requested. Make sure that specifics are discussed and the type of roofing materials, color and shingles are available. If the company has the correct experience, they will be able to do anything that needs to be done. An experienced roofing company is going to have a staff that is on top of everything and will do a proper installation.

Roofing is an important job that must be taken seriously. Getting the job done in a proper time and manner is what makes the roofing company worthwhile. Always make sure to get as much information as possible about each service to be performed. Getting the right kind of roofer can make the job go quick and the roof be the best that it can.

Victorian-era homes are gorgeous, with their ornate carvings, polished wood, and stunning details. About the only thing they are lacking is storage space. Well, that and electrical outlets, but that’s a topic for another post. Here, Ryan Lynch shares his tips for making the most of the home storage and organization space you do have, even if it’s never enough.

If you are like most people, you probably feel as if you don’t have enough storage in your home. But, if you are having difficulty finding enough storage to suit your needs, the problem might have more to do with how you are using the space rather than how much space you have. In other words, you may not have the right organizational strategies in place to make the most effective and efficient use of your storage space. Therefore, in order to get more use out of the storage space you have, you might want to consider implementing a few of these strategies.

Rods

One way to make more efficient use of your closet space is to add a couple of rods. Many people have only one rod installed in their closets, but most closets can handle having two rods in place. With two rods, you can store even more of your clothes in the closet rather than folding them up and storing them away somewhere else.

Shelving

You may already have shelving units installed in your closet, but you could potentially make more efficient use of the space by moving the shelves. If you move them down, for example, you may be able to put more items on the shelf. Or, if you move the shelf up, you might actually be able to fit another shelf in your closet. You might also want to consider installing corner shelves multi-level shelving units in order to give yourself more places for storage.

Storage Units

Storage units that are designed for specific purposes, such as spice racks, can help you get items out of your cabinets while still looking organized and being easy to access. You might also want to consider installing a rack for your canned goods or for your soda, as these specialty racks are designed to allow the next can to roll forward after the can in front is removed. In addition, when purchasing new furniture, look for those items that have storage space in mind. Many coffee tables and couches have built-in storage space hidden inside, which can be perfect for storing away items that typically clutter up the living room.

Hanging from Walls

Believe it or not, your walls can also serve as an excellent place to store items. In the kitchen, for example, you might want to consider hanging pots and pans on the walls rather than storing them in your cabinets. Not only does this free up space in your cabinets, it also puts your pots and pans within easy reach while also adding an interesting decorative element to your kitchen. In your garage, peg board can be used to hang tools and other organizational hardware can be purchased for hanging ladders, bicycles, garden tools and more on the wall.

Although it might seem impossible when you look at all of the items that you need to store, it really is possible to fit more in the space you already have if you implement a few simple organizational methods.
